PGRD* Nagoya Laboratories
Global teamwork and cutting-edge technology lead to safe, innovative medicines. |
Having discovered more than 25 Candidates (potential new medicines) over the past
15 years, PGRD* Nagoya Laboratories is an important part of Pfizer's
global R&D network. The Nagoya site has been engaged in research to develop new analgesic medicines since 1992, as well as drugs for gastro-intestinal(G.I.) disorders since 2000 and for liver diseases that were newly added in late 2004. Pharmaceutical R&D begins by studying disease mechanisms
on a genetic/molecular level. It advances with the identification of functional
molecules, which are screened in the search for chemical compounds capable of
achieving reliable therapeutic results. Once a promising chemical compound is
detected, its efficacy and safety are thoroughly assessed. The few compounds that
pass these rigorous tests then enter another selection process involving further
cooperation among Nagoya laboratories and those in the U.S. and Europe. In the
search for new leading compounds, Nagoya laboratories has been effectively employing
high-speed robotics in order to screen the millions of compounds necessary for
success. To bring Candidates discovered overseas into Japan, Nagoya laboratories
also assists in preparing government applications by collecting data in collaboration
with the Clinical Development Division.

J-clin, PGRD Tokyo Laboratories
J-clin spirit of global collaboration leads international clinical development. |
Based in Tokyo, J-clin functions as Pfizer's clinical development organization,
dedicated to the promotion of information exchanges and collaborative efforts
with other Pfizer R&D facilities. Vast amounts of clinical data are available
from Pfizer U.S. and Europe, and J-clin works
to make effective use of it. Responsibilities in connection with the ICH*conference
are also a part of the role J-clin fulfills.

J-clin works to achieve Pfizer's collective goal of simultaneous new product development
and worldwide drug approval. In addition, J-clin facilitates Pfizer's global clinical
development process by promoting improved cooperation with marketing personnel.
This allows maximized market value of new pharmaceutical products and accelerates
the development of innovative medicines.
*The International Conference on Harmonization of Technical
Requirements for the Registration of Pharmaceuticals for Human Use (ICH). Initiated
in 1991, the ICH works to expedite regulatory approvals by sharing clinical test
data globally and thereby eliminate the need for duplication of studies for each
jurisdiction. |
